How to legalise cannabis in Canada

Legalizing pot was an election pledge, one Trudeau pitched as way to make communities safer. He says government regulation of pot sales would hurt organized crime and keep the drug away from kids.

While the legalisation of cannabis in Canada seems eminent. The process to do it appears to be a rough road. Justin Trudeau Has pledged to legalize, regulate and restrict access to cannabis. But how he will do this he may not be to sure.

Liquor Stores

"If adults can freely buy marijuana in places like the Quebec's provincially run liquor stores, pushers will no longer have the capacity to sell it to adults and only selling it to young people will be both risky and less profitable," he told the reporters.

B.C.'s Public Health Officer, Dr. Perry Kendall, says the way alcohol is currently sold encourages accessibility and consumption. He also points to the potential harm of one-stop shopping for both pot and alcohol. Dr. Kendall says there's evidence that drinking and smoking pot doesn't just add forms of intoxication together, but instead has a "multiplier" effect. In essence, it's likely to make users considerably more intoxicated.

With a massive infrastructure already in place for booze, some believe the liquor control system is best-equipped to handle pot, with OPSEU chief Warren Thomas joining a chorus that already includes Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger. “The LCBO has a solid track record of responsibly selling alcohol and would bring the same service standard to marijuana… including minimum age limits, a ban on marketing, and a plan to prevent cannabis-impaired driving. If we let industry write the rules, we won’t make any headway in reducing the social harm from marijuana.”

Canada Post

It is entirely possible for regulated cannabis to save Canada post. By expanding the existing delivery-by-mail system for medical buyers. Building off an existing model, with pot tracked from “seed-to-sale” and delivered in child-proof, vacuum-sealed, discrete packaging. “It allows you to really get out and launch a system across the country, but in a rather cautious manner that is building upon what exists and what has proven to be successful on the medical side. By doing that, it buys you time to gather data, to understand the challenges and the successes.” Says Tweed president Mark Zekulin.

Store Fronts

Police in B.C. generally take a hands-off approach, unless there is a complaint from the community, though raids are increasing in frequency. Critics of this model say some shops are still fed by the black market, and are therefore still feeding organized crime.
“We do not permit people to sell legal or illegal liquor or prescription medicine on a street corner and similarly, we cannot permit an illegal substance to be sold in a similar manner, particularly when people have complained about it. There is no legal mechanism in Canada which allows for medicinal marijuana dispensaries or compassion clubs to sell or gift to the public.” Said Supt. Mark Fisher, Nanaimo RCMP

Health Centre

This is a model that requires users to register and receive a card and all sales would be tracked per user. Onsite counselling and outreach would be available. This model would seem the most expensive of the current models.

Colorado Style

The government issues licenses to private enterprise, as is the case in Colorado, where aggressive marketing (including THC-laced soda, chocolate and candy) has led to sky-high profits. The majority of the Canadian public already supporting legalization may not be on board with handing industry the keys to the Cadillac.

Tell me which model you think we should adopt for Canada’s legalisation plan.

Strobe LEDS on cannabis plants

I tried to find some information on this topic. I could not find anything relevant. I wonder have any of you ever heard of anybody trying strobe LEDs on marijuana. Actually I am more interested in the effect of changing colors or color temperatures. Also I am interested in the timing of the strobe.

I am considering getting one of those smart LED lights that allows you to use your phone to change the color. I may be able to write my own software to control it. I'm curious to see what would happen to a plant that gets one second of blue and one second of red consecutively and repeatedly. What would happen during different stages of development if you give two flashes blue one flash red or the other way around. Two flashes red one flash blue.

What about flashing the different colors several times a second. Light from artificial sources already pulses but it pulses to fast for the human eye to detect it. That being said I don't think the flash will give the plant any kind of seizure. But would it benefit from cycling colors to both extremes? What if you cycle through the full spectrum? This might give your plant the effect of living under a rainbow. This could make it very happy :).

I'm interested to know if anyone has done any experiments like this and what kind of results they may have gotten?

What is your opinion on this?

Legalizing it in Canada

I have been reading articles regarding Canada's legalization plan. I get blown away by all the misinformation that is out there. Allot of people I mean allot still have old antiquated views on this subject. Ill provide a few examples below.

I would like to draw you attention to this paragraph.

"She says that concerns about contact-highs are often cited but are not scientifically sound arguments that a child is in danger. Contact-highs have been widely discredited as a myth, and cannabis must be cooked before it can get you high." From :http://cannabisactivistnetwork.com/2016/02/01/us-veterans-children-taken-away-over-his-use-of-medical-marijuana/

WTF is a contact high? Wikipedia says a contact high is.
"A contact high is a psychological phenomenon that occurs in otherwise sober people and animals who come into contact with someone who is under the influence of drugs. It involves a supposed transfer of the physiological state of intoxication. A glossary of drug users' language from the 1970s describes the term as "a psychogenic 'trip' without taking drugs by being close to somebody while he or she is on drugs. The term is often incorrectly used to describe the high obtained by inhaling the smoke of other marijuana smokers."

Really a "contact high", Really? How often have you heard of people being contact drunk? Personally I have never heard of it. Wikipedia doesn't even have a definition for "contact drunk". So we know anybody who thinks they are getting a contact high is either: Drunk, High, Stupid or just mentally unstable.

Lets look at that paragraph again there is something else I found interesting.
"and cannabis must be cooked before it can get you high." What does that mean? I have heard police officers and other "informed peoples" say that marijuana needs to be cooked like meth. I have also heard that "Grow OPs" are just as dangerous as a meth lab. Are you for real? Are you trying to tell me that a plant growing in my garden makes my garden just as dangerous as a meth lab? What have you been smoking?

Maybe I am reading to much into this maybe they meant that you must "cook" it into food before you can get high?

Is it possible that these people "informed" people are basing their opinions on old marijuana techniques? What I mean is, ten years ago grow ops were scary and dangerous. With the grower bypassing his electric meter so that the electric company would not alert police to a grow op in his house. Dangerous wiring is dangerous be it for a grow op or otherwise.

Today we have complete self contained kits that will grow marijuana safely and effectively with low power LED lights. Gone are the days of bypassing electric meters. Soon the days of police flying over your house with FLIR cameras will be over. They wont find hot spots in any house using LED or CFL lights for that matter.

Add to this, if marijuana becomes legal for everyone to grow. You just wont have the 800 plant grow op house in your neighbourhood. It wont be able to exist. If I can grow it myself why would I pay someone else’s outrageous prices for the same product. Plus if I do it myself I can ensure everything is up to my personal standards. Maybe I prefer 100% organic. Maybe I need a particular strain to help with my arthritis.

How can we ever hope to update our legal system if we cannot upgrade our thinking system.

Leave your comments. I want to know what you think.

Why I like auto flower cannabis

Firstly I choose auto flowers because I live in a region with a shorter growing season. Auto flower cannabis usually can be harvested between 6-8 weeks. I also like that these plants are smaller and can be stealthier for the urban garden grower. Not only do auto flowers grow fast, they can produce some big yields. The most significant aspect I would say is that these plants will flower on their own irrespective of the light cycles. Hence the name "Auto Flower". Apart from the short strains there are also bigger, heavier auto strains that are almost as big as regular ones but will still flower automatically and these are called the “SUPER” autoflowering plants.

This makes them ideal for the beginner IMHO. What might make them even better for beginners or worse depending on your beginner I guess.  Auto flower cannabis does not like to be bothered. However if you follow a few simple rules you can grow some nice plants. Simply the rules are plant it, leave it, harvest it.

Auto flower cannabis does not like to be re potted. You can read my article on why you should not re pot auto flowers here. Once your seed has germinated and produced a good tap root you should plant it in its forever pot right away and never take it out of that pot. Then give it lots of light. You wont have to worry about light cycles or anything else. While there is much debate on the optimum light amount you should give from 18 to 24 hours of light to your plant a day.

Auto flower cannabis can be grown indoors or outdoors.

Indoors you can stealth grow in a small cabinet. You don’t need to worry about light cycles. You can grow flowering plants in a vegging grow area. From seed its only about 2 month to harvest.

Outdoors you can have multiple harvest in one season. Auto flowers can grow in any time of the year if the temperature is not below 10 to 15 degrees Celsius.

Stay tuned for my next article. how to grow auto flower cannabis seeds.
